Today in Houston. WTF?

Yesterday slate_canada posted about an article on environmental damage from oil processing in Canada. I don't think Canada is actually more guilty than the USA and their oil smack culture, or for that matter the UK that got the greenhouse gas ball rolling with coal power in the 19th century.

George Monbiot's exposé of the Alberta tar sands debacle.

Hey, we don't call them "tar sands" anymore. They've been renamed "oil sands." Doesn't that sound nicer? Problem solved.

Canada probably isn't more guilty than other countries historically, but we are trying hard to make up for that relative lack of culpability by making sure we become the leader in both environmental degradation and obstructionism.
